Songun, National Lifeline in DPRK

History proves that what kind of politics the national leader adopts decides the rise and fall of the country and people.

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea is now successfully parrying vicious moves of the US and other imperialists to isolate and stifle it, ushering in the dawn of a great, prosperous and powerful nation.

The credit goes to the Songun politics Chairman Kim Jong Il of the DPRK National Defence Commission is administrating, the politics which regards the Korean People's Army as the pillar and driving force of the revolution, and encourages the army to give full play to its revolutionary mettle and fighting spirit in defending the country, revolution and socialism and pushing ahead with the overall socialist construction.

The US imperialists always regarded the Korean Peninsula as the bridgehead in their strategic endeavor to cut into pieces and control the whole Asian continent at their will.

Such a geopolitical advantage of the Korean Peninsula thus kept constant clouds of war over the peninsula.

Even after the Korean War from 1950 to 1953, it supplemented its operation plans for invading Korea and ceaselessly conducted actual war games and nuclear bomb dropping exercises. It openly hastened the development project of nuclear warheads of a new type.

Such undisguised maneuvers of the US reached their height in the mid-1990s.

It spread the rumors that the DPRK could hardly survive May 1996 and that it would meet its collapse within either 3 days or 3 months if nothing helped it, and at most in 3 years’ time.

It exposed the DPRK to some critical points concerning the issues of nuclear, missile and underground nuclear facilities.

Meanwhile, sanctions, isolating and stifling maneuvers of the US were intensified, covering the fields of politics, the economy, the military, ideology and culture, diplomacy and all others.

The situation on the Korean Peninsula was driven to the hair triggering point, and the whole world apprehended whether Korea would survive it or not.

At this time leader Kim Jong Il held higher the banner of Songun, declaring his firm will to break through the prevailing difficulty by regarding the KPA as the pillar of the revolution and placing them in the van of the struggle.

He formulated the Songun politics as his key political mode.

He clarified the fundamental principle of Songun – the army is just the Party, the state and the people – and solved all the problems arising in the revolution and construction on the principle of putting the army before the working class.

On his continuous inspections of military units ranging from the eastern to western fronts, from naval ports on the eastern coastal areas to islet posts in the West Sea, Kim Jong Il implanted KPA servicemen’s mind with the patriotic consciousness that the country must be defended lest the nation should become slaves to imperialists.

He made sure that the army took a vanguard role in both national defence and socialist construction, and named their heroic spirit displayed in the course the revolutionary soldier spirit – the spirit of defending the leader with their very lives, the spirit of implementing the instructions of the leader at the cost of their lives, and the spirit of heroic self-sacrifice – and saw to it that the whole country learned from the spirit.

He also put forward the economic construction line of the Songun era that places the primary emphasis on developing the defence industry, while simultaneously promoting the light industry and agriculture.

According to the line, he made sure that the top priority was given to the development of the defence industry.

His wise leadership has strengthened the KPA into the one well prepared in a politico-ideological way and also militarily and technically, and promoted the DPRK to a powerful country with a strong war deterrent.

Songun politics has consolidated the DPRK’s dignity and sovereignty.

The US resorted to all sorts of maneuvers to abuse the DPRK’s nuclear, missile, human rights and other issues. At the same time it shipped modern war equipment into south Korea and its surrounding areas which had gone through tests in Iraq and Afghanistan, recklessly fanning up the war fever.

However, they never dared to harm even a blade of grass or a tree in the Korean territory.

The Nepalese journal Cross Check carried an article about the Songun politics of Korea that made it dignified, saying:

“The Democratic People's Republic of Korea is small in territory and population, but exercises fairly a great influence on the international community with its authority. Even the US, so-called world’s only superpower that violently infringes others’ sovereignty with haughtiness, is being rivaled by the unyielding and tough DPRK.

What makes Korea a small but big country?

Kim Jong Il’s original Songun politics – it is the answer.”

Kim Jong Il’s Songun politics has not only strengthened the military power but promoted the overall national power to a higher level as well.

His Songun leadership has enabled the Korean people to lay down a solid economic foundation for a higher and quicker leap forward.

Power stations have mushroomed everywhere in the country, factories and enterprises have been reconstructed, stockbreeding and fish farms have appeared, and large-scale land realignment has facelifted the country.

The foundations and potentials have brought about great profits in economic construction.

The real life of the Koreans proves that Songun is their life, independence and dignity.

Therefore, they are faithfully following the Songun revolutionary leadership of Kim Jong Il, picturing a bright future of Korea.
